Sneak Peek: 'Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom'
I'm surprised it took this long to make a film on Nelson Mandela, probably one of the iconic figures, revolutionaries and heroes of our time.
Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom is based on the former South African president's autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, directed by Justin Chadwick and stars British actress Naomie Harris as Mandela's second wife Winnie.
Idris Elba, who was recently seen in supporting roles in Thor The Dark World and Pacific Rim, stars in the titular role as the anti-apartheid campaigner, in a film that charts Mandela's early life as a lawyer and a womaniser right through to his subsequent imprisonment.
The film held its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2013, and is set to release worldwide in January. Speaking in Toronto in September, Elba said the film shows "both sides" of Mandela's character - "the good and the bad".
Early reviews have praised Elba with a review from The Daily Telegraph stating "...with the magnificent Elba to anchor it, the film gradually achieves a sort of grandeur, in the manner of the hero it depicts."
I guess we'll find out how good Elba is in a month, but in the meantime take a look at the trailer of the film and do let us know what you think of it below.
