'Bajirao Mastani' Fashion: Anju Modi Raises The Bar

See this content in the original post

As a Brit Asian, growing up we only had the films from India as a guide to what was in fashion.

Now, with the world really only a global village, India is at our fingertips and Indian designers are as familiar to us as Gucci, Versace and Chanel.

Films come and go. the looks are devoured, digested then duplicated.

Similarly, the impact that Bajirao Mastani's eye popping creations have made, it's no different..

However, this is costuming on a grand scale and designer Anju Modi has raised the bar just that bit higher.

Each piece is delectable and each female lead given completely different iconic looks.

Deepika's looks are striking throughout

Whether its Mastani the warrior in chainmail with sword held aloft or Mastani the Rajput princess in intricately embellished lehengas - Deepika Padukone's looks are striking throughout.

In particular, Mastani clothed in a virginal white full length dress exposing her battle scars to an awestruck Bajirao (Ranveer Singh), when he'd only seen ever seen her fully armoured, her obvious beauty hidden.

Her adornments are many, ears weighted with chandelier earrings, hair dressed with jeweled combs, gigantic nose rings all redolent of a Mughal empress.

Contrast this with Kashibai, a classically regal Lady. Her saris worn in the Marathi style in rich, deep colours and traditional Indian weaves. Her styling was completed with heavy ornate gold jewelry befitting her status as wife of the prime minister.

Priyanka's looks are regal

I defy anyone not to covet the whole wardrobe.

What happens "over there" will soon be "over here" - as wedding season approaches can we finally be rid of those awful anarkali suits that should have been relegated to the jumble several seasons ago?

Here's hoping!

Which one of Mastani's or Kashi's looks stood out for you the most? As always do let us know below!
