Fashion Special: Does the Devil only wear Prada?
Fashion followers and movie goers alike know that The Devil Wears Prada has already become quite an iconic movie capturing the public's attention on every level. Based on Lauren Weisberger's best-selling novel, the film provides a humorous, yet somewhat superficial, take on the cruel and fickle world of the fashion industry.
Meryl Streep offers up an admirable tribute to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, known in her own right as "Nuclear Wintour", with extreme venom and delightful maliciousness as Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of Runway.
Owning the screen like a quaffed couture version of Cruella De Vil with her striking white hair and demure Prada outfits, Miranda is equally as frightening, terrorizing the staff of the magazine over which she presides as opposed to small spotted puppies with her ruthlessness and determination.
True to form of such a strong yet bitchy character, cutting remarks are prevalent throughout the film, such as 'Details of your incompetence do not interest me' and 'By all means move at a glacial pace. You know how that thrills me' showing that in fashion you actually need quite a thick skin underneath all those layers of clothing!
Anne Hathaway's character Andy Saachs steps up to the challenge and even though she relinquishes her role at its peak, she is somewhat successful in her overall battle, whereby even those who are fashionably challenged can survive in the industry with the right armour. ..even if it is by Chanel.
We look at some of the best looks picked out by film stylist Patricia Field of Sex & The City fame that helped shape Anne's character Andy into the fashionista with the job a millions girls would kill for...That's all.
