BollyBrit® Comment: The Hrithik–Kangana Soap Opera

Since time immemorial the lines have blurred from the silver screen to reality. Be it the 50's, 60's,70's, 80's or present day, romantic pairings have transferred from celluloid to actuality. We can all name names, but why should we air someone else's dirty laundry here? Actually, scrap that. Why shouldn't we, when literally everyone seems to have an opinion about these clandestine, undercover liaisons which make for very enjoyable fodder indeed.

Take the recent spat between Bollywood heavyweights Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut.

You would have to be living under a rock to have missed their shenanigans. The he said/she said, recriminations, accusations, heck even legal notices.

So who's right? Who's wrong? Who cares?

I do. For too long the industry has turned a blind eye to the misdemeanors of the menfolk. They run roughshod and women take a backseat. Chewed up and spat out when something better comes along, the wife finds out, he gets bored or numerous other countless scenarios.

Well the tides seem to have turned. The winds have changed and they are brewing up a S-T-O-R-M!

This whole fiasco will teach a lesson to those who think they can have their cake and eat it too.

There is no right and no wrong. We're not here to pass judgement (well we are, but it comes with the territory, I guess), yet the unfairness of the situation weighs the argument firmly in Ranaut's favour, at least for me.

Where others have silently bore the brunt of the fallout from their dalliances, Ranaut, refreshingly, has refused to let it go quietly. She has been positioned as a big mouth but in an industry chock full of massive egos,  the self styled 'Queen' is upfront about her achievements, and clearly her conquests too. Admittedly, whether a lot of those achievements are merely a figment of her imagination or a case of making hay while the sun shines is open to debate, but either way, in the last few years Kangana Ranaut, the actress (and queen of quotable quotes) has arrived.

If only..... Roshan hadn't dropped Ranaut from Aashiqui 3, denied so vigorously any clandestine relationship, promised her the earth then reneged. Of course his lawyers are among the best, so here the only one that's been vilified is Ranaut. Even so, Roshan's rep has taken a beaten with this brouhaha, make no mistake. His 'Greek God' status and pristine reputation have been dented and whether or not there's any truth in Ranaut's accusations of hacking and stalking, the ramifications will resound throughout Bolly-land.

The moral of this sorry tale? Never underestimate A woman scorned.

In the Hrithik vs Kangana, war cry – where do your loyalties lie? As always tweet us at @BollyBrit or @ZeeZooMeeMoo1 or comment below, and do let us know your take on this outlandish soap opera! We'd love to hear your thoughts!
