BollyBrit®'s new monthly Star of the Month feature will celebrate a member of the film fraternity who thinks outside the box, has dared to be different, has made a positive impact, social or otherwise (political correctness be damned), and isn't afraid of going against the tide.

We like a woman that calls it like it is, which is why Sonam Kapoor is BollyBrit®'s esteemed star of the month for November!

Sonam, considered one of the top leading ladies in the Hindi film industry, has risen to being a star icon in her own right. From being known initially as Anil Kapoor’s daughter, she worked her way since her debut in Saawariya (2007) towards establishing her own identity and has a solid presence in Hindi films.

Think Sonam and its a name that's instantly synonymous with ‘glamour’, ‘style, ‘chic’ and the like. She's a consistent fixture on fashion magazine covers and best-dressed lists, often frequents A-list events, and has a presence that makes heads turn. On screen, she has a certain vivaciousness that endears her to the audience, and over time she's established a solid fan base, proof of which are her 7.4 million followers on Twitter.

The most prominent quality about Sonam though, and one that is often overlooked, is the fact that she’s a great role model, which is why Sonam is BollyBrit®'s esteemed star of the month.

Why?

She’s socially aware and always gives her opinion on important social issues like LGBT rights, the beef ban, the pornography ban, and the list goes on:

Sure, she gets into trouble for it sometimes – like when she got trolled for being too honest.

But we love someone that knows their own mind and wants to raise awareness towards relevant issues!

She loves to read – and encourages other people to read too! Quite refreshing for a generation obsessed with the internet, videogames and apps!

Beautiful and bookish.  What’s not to like? Considering the art of reading is slightly lost nowadays, someone like Sonam encouraging people to read is amazing.

Sonam is supportive of other women in the industry and is actually friends with other actresses. Her entire team consists solely of women!

Women supporting other women, that’s how it should be!

Even though she’s an industry child, she calls out the bullshit of the industry:

We know what she said wasn’t to a lot of people’s liking, but Sonam had a point. When you’re known for your looks, your acting skills are overshadowed and the onus is more on your beauty and not much else.

But hey, like we said,  we like a woman that calls it like it is.

Her roles usually have a lot for her to do (Raanjhanaa, anyone?). She supports her own career by producing her own films…. And they’re always female-centric:

Producers not wanting to make female-centric movies? She just makes her own!

She never fails to motivate fans to get fit:

Staying fit and leading a healthy lifestyle is a good mantra to have in anyone’s life and Sonam has never shied away from this. Sonam shed a lot of weight before her debut in Saawariya and has never quit working out since!

She’s always motivating her fans to stay positive and have a positive outlook on life:

We love positivity and positive people and this actress has it in droves!

Sonam believes in family first. She loves her family and never fails to support anyone from her family!

So sanskaari, no?

And lastly, because Sonam loves fashion like no other, makes no bones about it, and loves to work it like nobody’s business!
