TV Review: Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor on 'Koffee With Karan'

Aditya and Shraddha were as charming as ever on Karan's Kontroversial Kouch

Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor together on Koffee With Karan was a bit of a surprise. Both are relative newbies to the 'filmi' world so to speak, so I was a little apprehensive on whether they would manage to talk through an entire forty minutes about their relatively short career span. I was wrong of course. The debutants were at their charming best and shared an incredibly warm camaraderie, obviously adding fuel to the fact that they are indeed a couple in real life.

The duo sashayed arm in arm down the stairs, with Shraddha Kapoor looking as radiant and as luminous as ever in a white gown – seriously, she’s a good actress no doubt, but more than that she’s just so goddamn good looking with those porcelain features, that you can’t help but gawk at her whenever she’s on screen. Aditya Roy Kapoor has gone for a short crew cut (I suspect it’s for Daawat-e-Ishq and it quite suits him – I guess anything's better than that afro he once used to sport!).

Karan dived straight in with his candid questions and probed Shraddha about her fallout with Aditya Chopra after she flouted her three-film deal with Yash Raj Films to grab Aashiqui 2 with the Bhatts. Shraddha was evasive, but said she would always consider the producer as her mentor and that she hoped he would call her for a movie someday. Who can blame her for being politically correct – it's better than taking on such a big production house head on at such an early stage in your career!

As an aside, Shraddha is young but came across as incredibly switched on, and seems to know what she wants out of both her life and career.

Aditya on the other hand is EXTREMELY down to earth, humble and has a devil may care attitude. By his own admission, he's somewhat of an accidental hero who tried his hand at supporting parts (Guzaarish, London Dreams, Action Replayy), all of which tanked until Aashiqui 2 came along and turned the tide massively in their favour.

The charming actor then went on to shed light on his brother (Sidharth Roy Kapoor), who apparently is a complete movie buff, and shared some other gems too, like how he got uber drunk on the sets of Aashiqui 2, so that he could pull of his alcoholic singer part, and that he had to be sent home a couple of times for the same reason – he was so legless he couldn't function on set!

I liked that unlike previous guests, neither Shraddha nor Aditya vehemently denied that they were seeing each other. They made the obvious denials but didn't really force it, obviously because it is too difficult to hide – Shraddha's sneaky loving glances at her rumoured beau didn't go unnoticed, and they seemed just far too at ease, for us to believe that there's nothing brewing between the two!

Just a side note here – I LOVE that Aditya has absolutely no starry airs about him. He came across as so bohemian and chilled out, and so much like a normal blokey bloke, which is quite rare to find especially amongst celebrities. And if his acting career ever fails, he's already got a back up career lined up. Singing. The guy is a brilliant singer - his rendition of 'Tum Hi Ho' was spot on.

Aditya revealed that him and Ranbir Kapoor are really pally even post Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and the actor couldn't stop praising RK. It would be interesting if the two got together for another film now especially since Aditya is a huge star. Would Aditya demand a larger role I wonder?

Shraddha is quite the girly girl too. She looks up to both Shakti Kapoor (who incidentally has done over 700 films!), and actress Padmini Kolhapure (her aunt) and aspires to be like them. She was extremely endearing too (even if a little diplomatic), and was perfectly comfortable with letting Aditya taking centre stage whilst listening on intently.

It was the subsequent rounds where things really picked up. Both the actors were totally with it during the Rapid Fire Round, and did you know, Shraddha is a massive Priyanka Chopra fan? She said it a few times on the show and both actors rated PC as the best actress, which was a surprise as I don't see the connection. And I wonder how Vidya (Balan) felt about that AND the fact that Aditya was clueless when Karan quizzed him about her during the Koffee Quiz?!

Aditya would rather die than do a gay scene and rated Ranbir over most other actors when it came to acting. He's drunk dialled an ex and hooked up in a public place. From the women, he finds Katrina the most attractive (because he's working with her in Fitoor I'm guessing), and thinks Mary Kom's (boxer) hot too (god this guy's easy to please!). Amongst the directors, he wants to work with Dibakar Banerjee next – these were only a few of Aditya's gems during the Rapid Fire round.

Shraddha was equally quick witted too. Interestingly, she's keen to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali next and would've loved to have done Deepika's role in Ram Leela. And oh... her retort on referring to threesomes as 'garbas' was quite silly but funny nonetheless and made me giggle.

The Koffee Quiz was a close call, (Shraddha's movie knowledge is spot on, I liked that), but Aditya went on to win both rounds – naturally Shraddha would get to share the prizes anyway!

I was really surprised with this week's show. I only recently saw Aashiqui 2, and after watching the duo on Karan's show, I'm totally rooting for them and hope they have an uber successful innings at the box office. They're cute, switched on and down to earth and I'd love to see more of them together on screen.

Did you see this week's episode? What did you think of it?
