Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and 'The Avengers' come out tops at MTV Movie Awards

Bradley Cooper and Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook

Actors Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence won for best actor and actress respectively at the MTV Movie Awards, for their performances in the quirky comedy Silver Linings Playbook.

The actors even won the award for the best kiss for the same film, at the event, held in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Accepting the second award, Cooper said: "Jennifer's not here, but she was great to kiss."

Meanwhile, Joss Wheddon's The Avengers, aka Avengers Assemble, won three gongs including the top prize, movie of the year.

"What's the opposite of humbled? We're Biebered to be standing here," said Avengers writer-director Whedon as he accepted the golden popcorn trophy. "This is the award that means the most to me. I am so grateful and very excited for 2015; we're going to bring you Avengers 2."

The Avengers also won best fight and best villain for actor Tom Hiddleston.

Zac Efron, Danny McBride and Seth Rogen presented Twilight actor Taylor Lautner with the best shirtless performance award.

Lautner joked that getting older had taken its toll on his impressive physique.

"For all of us shirtless actors this is like winning an Oscar. For all of us who do take our shirts off (Matthew) McConaughey, (Channing) Tatum, Lena Dunham, this is it," he said.

The other popular winners at the MTV Movie Awards 2013 winners were:

Best WTF Moment - Jamie Foxx and Samuel L. Jackson for Django Unchained
MTV Trailblazer - Emma Watson
Comedic Genius - Will Ferrell
MTV Generation - Jamie Foxx
Best Musical Performance - Pitch Perfect

The show also included new footage from Iron Man 3, which hits theatres this month, and the world premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire trailer, introduced by one of its stars, Liam Hemsworth.

The MTV Movie Awards is a film awards show presented annually on MTV. The nominees are decided by producers and executives at MTV, with winners decided online by the general public.
