Box office collections affected due to mixed reviews for 'Aurangzeb'

Aurangzeb, which sees Arjun Kapoor in a double role, released this morning, amidst mixed reviews. Unsurprisingly, this factor coupled with very limited promotion from Yash Raj Films has taken its toll on the film's box office collections too. The film opened in the region of an abysmal 20% at multiplex chains, but is expected to pick up. (Box Office India).

Taran Adarsh (Bollywood Hungama), criticised the film and gave it two stars (out of five), saying, "This one's way too lengthy and mediocre [second hour] to leave any kind of an impression whatsoever. Disappointing!"

Hindustan Times too gave the film just two stars. They praised Rishi Kapoor's performance but felt that the women were wasted. "In a typical, unfortunate nod to old-school Bollywood, the women have little or no voice. They swim in bikinis and gyrate to seduce the hero and the audience, or play scheming home wreckers," said Sarit Ray.

Subhash K.Jha (IANS), however, praised the film saying, "The film is a marvel of impeccable casting. Every actor gives his best, none more so than Rishi Kapoor who as the illimitably corrupt cop pulls off yet another masterly antagonist's part."

If early indications are anything to go by, the film which also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Deepti Naval, Swara Bhaskar, Tanvi Azmi, Amrita Singh, Sasheh Agha, Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher and Sikander Berry,  is unlikely to repeat the success of Arjun Kapoor's debut film Ishaqzaade, which co-incidentally released on the same day. Shame really since, the actor has been praised for attempting a double role so early in his career.
