I like Tom Hardy. I think he's talented and underrated — yes that awful film This Means War notwithstanding. He was stellar as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and I'm looking forward to this, a film by British screenwriter and director Steven Knight, about a man who's near perfect life goes horribly wrong in a film shot almost entirely in a car.

The initial trailer is mostly ambiguous and doesn't give away much, but apparently the premise revolves around Hardy's character and his imaginary conversations with his dead father. It doesn't sound entirely riveting, but I'm willing to give it a chance seeing as it got a fair bit of buzz at the Sundance Film Festival, and given that I've enjoyed similar films (Buried, Phonebooth to name a couple), which revolve around a single character and are shot in confined spaces and/or one location.

Official synopsis:

Ivan Locke has crafted a nearly flawless life. Professionally, he is an obsessive perfectionist, respected by his coworkers and loved by his bosses. He cherishes the bond he shares with his two sons and the unshakeable partnership he has developed with his wife. This is the life he always imagined, an ideal existence built with painstaking care. Hours before the biggest day of his career, Locke receives a phone call that threatens to destroy the life he has worked so meticulously to create. As he struggles to keep his world intact, he is forced to confront his imperfections and the fractured foundation where they are rooted.

The film premiered at the 70th Venice International Film Festival at the fag end of last year and also stars Ruth Wilson, Olivia Colman, Andrew Scott, Tom Holland, and Bill Milner. It hits cinemas 18 April 2014 (UK) and a week later in the US.
