The coming together of these two powerful actresses is something I've been waiting for for absolute eons. Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla, were back in the day, considered arch rivals, and Juhi very nearly usurped Madhuri's position after blockbusters like Aaina, Darr and Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke, but a series of awful career choices thereafter and a historic blockbuster from Madhuri, Hum Aapke Hai Koun..! left Juhi eating dust.

The two actresses have never been cast together despite repeated attempts by various filmmakers. The late Yash Chopra nearly succeeded in casting the pair in Dil To Pagal Hai, but Juhi ultimately walked out of the film as she felt her role didn't have any meat. What that film did for Karisma Kapoor's career is another story altogether.

Gulaab Gang is based on Gulabi Gang, an actual group of Indian women vigilantes and activists who dress in pink sarees, and fight against the social injustice and in the Bundelkhand region of Central India. While Madhuri plays the film's central protagonist, Juhi plays a wily politician with grey shades who will stop at nothing to stop the vigilantes dead in their tracks.

The first trailer of the film landed over the weekend, and it looks mind blowing, with both actresses seemingly on form and having delivered amazing performances. The real surprise in the trailer is Juhi, who's pulled off her antagonist part with aplomb. One wishes how she'd taken such risks in her hey day. Still better late than never.
