First Look: Naomi Watts as the Princess of Wales in 'Diana'

It's quite surprising that it took so long. But it's finally here. A film on the People's Princess, or the Princess of Wales, Diana stars Aussie Naomi Watts as the most photographed woman in the world.

Whether Watts carries off the role with as much style, poise and charisma as Diana herself remains to be seen, but after some noteworthy performances, especially recently in The Impossible, she's a pretty good bet and will hopefully do the film the justice it deserves.

The biopic focuses on the last two years of Diana's life after she divorced from Prince Charles, and her relationships with Dr. Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews) and Dodi Fayed (played by Cas Anvar) .

Official synopsis

When Princess Diana flew to Pakistan in May 1997, she went to meet the family of Dr. Hasnat Khan, the man she wanted to marry. One of the most famous and beautiful women in the world, she hoped to persuade Dr. Khan’s mother that she would make a suitable wife for her son. Had she succeeded, the events of that summer might have been very different... A love story about family, friendship and the calamity of fame.

Diana is directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel and hits theatres this September.
