The official poster of Bajrangi Bhaijaan

It feels like months since Bajrangi Bhaijaan has been threatening to take over my entire Twitter timeline and well, it's finally happened. The first glimpse of Kabir Khan's magnum opus which promises to be a treat (assault?!) to your senses is here and honestly? After the huge build up, what with both Aamir and SRK tweeting the films's sneak peek, I was expecting something groundbreaking, and was all but left underwhelmed with what we finally got.

Resting on a simple premise revolving around a compulsive do-gooder (Khan, in case you hadn't guessed) who goes out of his way to rescue a mute little girl and get her back home across the border to Pakistan, Bajrangi Bhaijaan undoubtedly has the trappings of a sure shot blockbuster with Khan as the good Samaritan – swagger and sex appeal in place.

The film's directed by Kabir Khan, who's last outing, Ek Tha Tiger, I quite enjoyed, so it's not all doom and gloom and there are a few moments in the teaser that pack the requisite punch, but by and by, it all seems rather formulaic resting solely on Khan's superstar power, and that said, if his fans aren't complaining who am I to throw a spanner in the works?!

Bajrangi Bhaijaan is shot predominantly in Kashmir and also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and blink and you'll miss her, Kareena Kapoor Khan, looking like she walked straight off the sets of Gori Tere Pyaar Mein and Singham Returns. Seriously Bebo. We expect you to be more than just eye candy at this stage in your career.

The film has unparalleled mass hysteria and the backing of Salman's loyal fanbase, one that seems to have tripled post Salman's legal troubles, so undoubtedly it's well on its way to shatter records when it hits the marquee on 17 July. That's all well and good, but I was somehow expecting a little more, given the unprecedented hype. It didn't do as much as Ek Tha Tiger's trailer for me and call me demanding but I wanted more Bebo and less 'dhamaal'. Lets hope the film's theatrical trailer ups the ante a little.
