If your previous film was a measure of success and good content, then PK's already won half of its battle.

The film's teaser landed yesterday, and if its initial posters featuring a nude Aamir, with just a transistor for company, didn't pique your curiosity, its trailer most definitely will. 

PK is produced by UTV, and re-unites Aamir Khan with Rajkumar Hirani, after the monster hit that was 3 Idiots half a decade ago. That film, of course, went on to smash records, and its box office figure remains undefeated till date, and it looks like PK is all set to go down the same path.

Much of the film's plot is intentionally shrouded in mystery, but from its trailer, it's immediately apparent that Aamir plays a character with either mental health issues, or a being from another planet. Rumours and this first look though, definitely seem to point to the latter.

Talking about the film, Aamir said: "Like Raj Kumar's other films even this film will have a strong message. This is the toughest role of my career. I have hardly blinked in this film because of my character".

"I can't reveal much as the crux of the story will get revealed. There are lot of rumours. People feel that I am playing a double role, some feel I am playing an alien but wait till the film releases," he added.

Of all the biggies this year, the trailer of PK undoubtedly stood out the most for me – not just for Aamir humorous antics, but for a fresh faced Anushka Sharma, back on the silver screen after a break of nearly two years – her last film was Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, which released way back in January 2013. 

The film looks like it's set in a different era and its story seems to be recited from Jaggat Janini's (Sharma's character in the film) viewpoint in what looks like a coming of age tale with a message (like all of Hirani's past efforts), revolving around Aamir's character PK, who probably goes on to change the fate of a few of the other key players in the film with his quirkiness, naivete and innocence.

I enjoyed the film's trailer — it's likable, even if a little childish, and I think it will end what has been a disappointing year cinematically at least, on a much needed high.

PK marks the return of Sanjay Dutt too, albeit in a supporting role, and also stars Boman Irani, Sushant Singh Rajput and Saurabh Shukla, and has music by Ajay Atul and Shantanu Moitra.

It hits the marquee 19 December.
