We decided to dedicate today’s post to Shahid Kapoor – the dashing actor with chocolate boy looks, a never say die attitude and several memorable performances under his belt turns all of 33 today, 25 February 2014.

Despite being immensely talented (watch him in that gem Kaminey, which went on to acquire cult status), Shahid’s career isn’t peppered with that many blockbuster hits. Which is a surprise given his earnestness, his humility, his acting potential (which hitherto remains untapped), his dashing good looks and a devout fan base that refuses to diminish.

Rather than dedicate the entire post talking about his films, we decided to do something different and instead explore Shahid’s chemistry with his most prominent leading ladies and decide whether as a couple they sizzled, or fizzled.

Which of the leading ladies below did Shahid sizzle with the most?

Kareena Kapoor (Fida, 36 China Town, Chup Chup Ke, Jab We Met, Milenge Milenge)

Shahid’s done the maximum number of films with ex flame Kareena Kapoor, and ironically the only one that did well was the one that released post their publicised split. Jab We Met, till date remains one of the most prominent films in both their careers and one of my personal favourites too. The pair only sizzled in this one film under the watchful eye of Imtiaz Ali, while the other four came and went without much ado. But that one film alone made this one of my favourite on screen couples because they balanced each other out so well.

Amrita Rao (Ishq Vishk, Shikhar, Vivah)

Shahid and Amrita as a couple don’t really set the screen on fire, but its the stuff that cute puppy dog romances are made of. Of their three films Vivah proved to be the biggest hit, but being a Rajshri production we didn’t really see them sizzle on screen, it was all very coy and PG13. Still, it's a cute couple and that’s why they’re featured on this list. It's unlikely that we'll set to see this couple on screen again anytime soon though.

Vidya Balan (Kismat Konnection)

Shahid and Vidya did not do it for me as a couple AT ALL. Vidya’s features look far too mature next to Shahid’s baby face, and despite being a likeable film with decent music, Kismat Konnection felt totally flat because the lead pair had virtually zero chemistry between them.

Sonakshi Sinha (R… Rajkumar)

I wasn’t entirely convinced with Shahid and Sonakshi as a couple, but their flirtatious banter on Koffee With Karan totally got me rooting for them as a couple (if there are in fact any truth the rumours). R… Rajkumar didn’t really cash in on their chemistry, although the playfulness between them was well captured and their comfort level was evident in the film, but the jury’s still out until we get to see them together in a fully fledged classy romance, perhaps along the lines of Lootera.

Priyanka Chopra (Kaminey, Teri Meri Kahaani)

This pair is right up there in my list too, because they totally scorched the screen in the few scenes they shared together in Kaminey, and even in a dud like Teri Meri Kahaani, their chemistry was apparent – it’s just a shame it wasn’t utilised in the film properly. It’s definitely a pair I’d like to see together again – are any enterprising filmmakers listening? Vishal, a sequel to Kaminey perhaps?

Anushka Sharma (Badmaash Company)

I liked Badmaash Company. The premise was good and it was quite a clever film. It’s a shame it didn’t do that well, but the chemistry between leads Shahid and Anushka was smoking hot I thought. We need Yashraj to get the two in a film together and explore the spark that was first ignited in this criminally underrated film from a few years ago.

Sonam Kapoor (Mausam)

Shahid and Sonam make for an extremely photogenic couple and could perhaps do wonders in another film, especially since Sonam's polished her acting skills since Mausam. It’s a shame that whatever little chemistry they did have, wasn’t fully explored in a film that might have been half decent, if it was chopped at the editing table.

Rani Mukerji (Dil Bole Hadippa)

Shahid and Rani actually looked good together, despite the latter being a few years older, but because Rani was dressed as a man for most of the film, we don't get to see much of the couple's chemistry, except perhaps in the Dil Bole Hadippa remix version, and in that song they definitely did set temperatures soaring. Perhaps they just needed a better film in which to shine.

So there we go. A snapshot of Shahid and his chemistry with his most prominent leading ladies. Which was your favourite on screen pair? And who would you like to see Shahid pair up with in the future? Let us know below!
