Theatrical Trailer: 'Captain America : The Winter Soldier'

Marvel seem to be cashing in on the buzz around Thor: The Dark World (which releases next week, and the few that have been lucky enough to see it can't stop raving about it), by releasing a trailer of their Captain America The Winter Soldier, nearly six months before it hits the marquee.

The film picks up where the Avengers film ended, and sees Steve Rogers (Evans) struggling to embrace his role in the modern world, but when a fellow S.H.I.E.L.D colleague is attacked, he teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow (Johansson), to battle a powerful unknown enemy in the heart of Washington DC.

Scarlett Johansson returns as The Black Widow

We touched base with an avid comic book fan, to see what he thought of the rather spectacular looking trailer, and this is what he had to say about the big Marvel film:

"Most strikingly the trailer makes it clear that S.H.I.E.L.D will take heavy damage and a particular car explosion suggests Nick Fury might be a possible casualty. Reports that Marvel's Phase 3 will have a different central figure (Dr Strange anyone?!) means Fury might be on the way out - in the comics he fakes his own death to go underground, so watch this space.

This trailer is also our first look at the Winter Soldier himself and what an introduction it was! Apart from his badass moves, killer action sequences and catching the shield….  we also got to see that cybernetic arm on full display. As this movie is the main lead in to Avengers 2: Age Of Ultron, is this a hint that Toby Jones’ Arnim Zola could have something to do with the creation of Ultron?!

Chris Evans in Captain America The Winter Soldier

There's been a lot of web-whispering about the casting of heavy weight actor Robert Redford when the MCU already has Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury to represent the establishment. Like many others online, I think Redford's Alexander Pierce will turn out to be the Red Skull who mysteriously disappeared in the first movie, apparently destroyed by the teseract/cosmic cube.  My guess is that the cube worked, granting him his wish to be in the perfect position to destroy all his enemies, including our eponymous hero, and in fact eponymous villain (spoiler: The Winter Soldier is Bucky Barnes, Cap’s WWII friend and sidekick). From his high administrative position he can then manipulate S.H.I.E.L.D and everyone around him into creating the right conditions for marshal law, seizing control without lifting a finger. No? Well, maybe not, but that’s my best stab at it.

Overall I am thrilled to see these movies returning to a dramatic focus after the Disney (all-for-lols!) extravaganza that was Iron Man 3, which also took unnecessary and unpopular liberties with the source material. " – Ralph Redfern.

Do you agree with Ralph?

Anthony Mackie stars as The Falcon in Captain America The Winter Soldier

In addition to Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, the film also stars Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, Toby Jones, Sebastian Stan, Robert Redford and Anthony Mackie as The Falcon.

Captain America: The Winter Solder releases worldwide on 4 April 2014. Meanwhile here's the edgy trailer to feast your eyes on — Do let us know what you think of it!
