Special Feature: In conversation with Femina Miss India Earth 2011 and debutante Hasleen Kaur
BollyBrit® got the chance to catch up with gorgeous actress and Femina Miss India Earth 2011, Hasleen Kaur who debuts opposite director Suneel Darshan's son Shiv in the romantically charged Karle Pyaar Karle, which hits theatres 17 January. Excerpts:
What's your journey been like, from Femina Miss India Earth to films?
My journey's been full of ups and downs, Femina Miss India is a great platform to get one's face recognised, I was treated literally like a queen during that one year reigning period. Although, the struggle to achieve higher goals was not easy, though I continued modelling i had to take up acting classes to better my skills as an actor and learn from the mistakes I had made earlier in auditions for films. Some people did approach me for a couple of films but i felt i wasn't ready. It took me almost two years to transform myself from a model, beauty queen to an actor. And i'm still learning.
How difficult is the transition from being a model to films?
Modelling is and always will be my first love, but beyond a point there's little one can experiment with one's skillset as a model. Acting on screen or on stage is much tougher, in order to express a varied range of emotions i had to do a lot of introspection and bring out all that modelling didnt require me to do. I had to loose all inhibitions, poise, style and loosen up in order to allow a certain character to flow within freely.
How different is Karle Pyaar Karle from other love stories? What is its USP?
Karle Pyaar Karle's USP is undoubtedly its freshness, not just of the protagonists but other artists in the film including singers, technicians. it's a movie 'straight from the heart' as Mr Suneel Darshan puts it. Every film has to be made with a business angle but this film is to allow fresh talent to flow into the market. The action of this film is superb, it's stunts are to watch out for.
Which star do you aspire to model your career after? Why?
I love Kajol and Madhuri Dixit. The former for her spontaneous acting abilities, timing and the latter for her finesse as a dancer. They're both loved and cherished by the audience.
How much are you like your character Preet in Karle Pyaar Karle?
Preet and I are very similar. Just like Preet, I too walk around with the 'u can't mess with me' attitude. Preet is a confident girl who's not scared of anybody, she's always up for challenges and doesn't allow anybody to take her for a ride. But on the inside there's a much softer, simpler and vulnerable side to her which is revealed only to the near and dear ones.
Your thoughts on your costar Shiv?
Shiv is a perfectionist and a hard worker who strives for nothing but the best. Even when sometimes i became satisfied with a take and also to conserve energy, Shiv would still be at it. He's got tremendous energy and a positive vibe which is infectious.
It's a crowded market, with stars like Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt and the like, how different are you from them?
I feel each actor brings something completely different to the table, there's always a distinct identifiable quality. So far, mine would be that I've gone completely au naturel in the way I've performed. It's straight from the heart and what comes spontaneously to me without calculating too much.
Do you want to tell us anything about your upcoming films?
As of now, my full focus is on Karle Pyaar Karle and its release. Some people have approached me but I'd like to wait for the real response to my performance after 17 January 2014 to sign on any dotted line.
If a film was made on your life who would you like to see play the lead role as you?
Deepika Padukone! I'm in complete awe of her as a person and an actor. she just looks fabulous and i feel she'll make my character look awesome on screen!
If you could be a superhero for one day what would be your superpower?
To be able to read people's thoughts!
If you had six months to live what would you do with that time?
I'll spend all that time with my loved one, my family. They matter the most to me in this world.
If you were a type of food what would you be?
I'd be a dessert, Hot Chocolate Fudge!
What the best compliment you've received?
That i'm beautiful inside out.
Any specific message for your fans?
