TV Review: Vidya-Farhan on 'Koffee With Karan'
Karan Johar's been experimenting with this star combinations this season. Having a dapper, somewhat extinguished Farhan Akhtar share the couch with powerhouse performer Vidya Balan was an unconventional choice, irrespective of the fact that they have a film coming up together – Shaadi Ke Side Effects.
Up first was Farhan Akhtar, looking exceptionally handsome, and what made him standout was his incredible wit. Perhaps he'd come prepared, but either way he left a usually quick host, Karan Johar stumped on several occasions. The duo went on to talk about Farhan's incredible performance in last year's biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, with Farhan adding how touched he was with Jaya Bachchan's reaction to his performance in the film. The buzz is that Farhan is due to fetch several accolades for the same during the upcoming awards season, and it's definitely well deserved.
Vidya took to the couch next, and looked breathtaking in a shimmering black and gold saree (her signature fashion statement). The actress was candid and went on to reveal how Farhan loved attention from women, and how the duo had great fun for the upcoming Pritish Nandy film.
Vidya seemed a lot more at ease now that she's married, and revealed how she didn't give a hoot about the digs at her fashion sense and/or weight, and insisted her critics and media needed to 'get a life' and let her get on with hers.
The camaraderie between the her and Farhan was comfortable and friendly, even if Farhan was a little reserved. The actor/director also went on to reveal how he had OCD, and didn't like things out of place, with the funniest part of the show being the innuendos the trio kept coming up with (we won't reveal them for you here, but do let us know what you thought as and when you get to seeing the show).
Farhan expectedly went on to win the hamper, with his remarkably quick retorts about Salman, Shah Rukh and Sonam, and seemed relived given that he's never won the hamper in the past. His knowledge during the film quiz was exceptional too, although I can't believe neither of them remembered the dog's name in the smash hit Hum Aapke Hai Koun...! (it was Tuffee dammit – admittedly I did get a little carried away during this question, and kept shouting it at my screen, but more on that some other time!)
I somehow enjoyed this show a lot more than Priyanka and Deepika and Sidharth, Varun and Alia, mainly because I was quite impressed with Farhan's sparkling humour and quick witted responses.
Vidya was good, even if a litte over confident and perhaps too sure of herself, and I wasn't too amused with some of her wannabe, risque answers but overall the show made for good viewing.
One thing's for sure. Farhan Akhtar is one classy dude!
