Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola: The first casualty of 2013
Vishal Bhardwaj, who’s known for his offbeat, cult films like Kaminey (2009), and Omkara (2006) isn’t having much luck of late. The Imran Khan-Anushka Sharma starrer Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is all set to be his second flop in a row after 2011’s Saat Khoon Maaf.
The film collected approximately Rs. 30 crores in its first week according to Box Office India and its collections fell heavily from Tuesday.
Abroad too the film came in 14th and collected approximately £98,000 (source: BFI) but its offbeat theme hasn’t caught on and its chances are likely to be affected due to the cold snap that’s currently gripped the UK.
Next week sees the release of Tips’ Race 2, the sequel to the 2008 smash hit Race. The film is carrying positive reports and the fact that it features top line stars Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone who’s last film Cocktail was a big success bodes well for its prospects at the box office.
