Trailer Watch: 'Piku'
Finally! A film's trailer that I'm on board with. I haven't seen any of Shoojit Sircar's previous films, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to get in line for this one. Piku revolves around acting stalwarts Amitabh Bachchan's character who's a pain in the ass (literally!), albeit doting dad and Irrfan Khan's character who harbours a soft spot for the former's daughter – played by Deepika Padukone, continuing her knack for throwing a surprise at us every so often (remember Finding Fanny?).
Set predominantly in Kolkata, the plot hints at Padukone playing an exasperated yet doting daughter who takes her grumpy, antisocial dad on a road trip along with her beau, played with deadpan gusto by Khan. The casting's unconventional but undoubtedly exciting and I'm keen to see how they play off each other in what undoubtedly looks like an interesting film.
There are quite a few chuckleworthy scenes in the trailer mainly revolving around Bachchan's character and a few wisecracks from Khan too, and I for one can't wait for the quirkiness that these three come out with. It seems that as the plot progresses, it will inevitably take a serious turn, but I'm game for it, given that everything we've seen here looks like so much fun!
Piku also stars Moushumi Chatterjee, Raghuvir Yadav, Jishu Sengupta and Akshay Oberoi and hits the marquee on 8 May.
I'm totes on board for this one... Are you?
