Weekend Box Office (Hollywood): ‘Oblivion’ scores, ‘G.I. Joe’ continues impressive run
Despite mixed reviews (see our review here) from critics, Universal Pictures’ Tom Cruise sci-fi Oblivion took a solid start in the US where it released this weekend. Worldwide too, the film continued to score grossing $33.7 million in its second weekend with a worldwide total of $150.2 million. (source: Hollywood Reporter)
The film is Cruise’s biggest success outside of the Mission: Impossible franchise and Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds.
Meanwhile, the sequel to the 2009 smash G.I. Joe titled G.I. Joe: Retaliation, has crossed an impressive $300 million mark internationally, despite terrible reviews from critics. The film, based on yesteryear toys by Hasbro opened in China to an astounding $33 million, which helped its overall total considerably.
